Pastoral Care at West Shore
The Pastoral Care Team
West Shore’s Pastoral Care Team doesn’t have a motto, but
if it did, it might be semper paratus, always ready. The team has
a commitment to be prepared to meet the pastoral care needs of our
members 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Mental Health and Addictions Ministry at West Shore
West Shore is currently exploring the creation of Mental Health and Addictions Ministry at West Shore. For more information click here.
Contacting a Member of the Pastoral Care Team
If
you are scheduled to have surgery, or are in the hospital, we’d like to visit you, so please let
us know. Hospitals are not permitted to contact ministers or churches
unless the patient specifically requests that information be shared. For non-emergencies
or to request pastoral counseling, call the church office and ask for the name/number
of a pastoral care team member or a minister. In the event of an emergency (serious
illness, diagnosis, hospitalization, death) contact a member of the ministry
team by calling the church office (440-333-2255) or the minister’s home
number.
Call when you
need us, make referrals, let people know what services are available, and
most important, be willing to extend your own caring hand to a church member
who is sitting alone, or who looks lost in the crowd on Sunday morning, or
who needs to be welcomed to a new church home. We are, each of us, part of
the larger care team of this church; giving and receiving, helping one another.
For Members of West Shore--What We Can Do:
- We can visit you when you're ill;
- We can sit with you or a family member through surgery or the surgery of a loved one;
- We can bring you food;
- We can try to connect you with community resources that may be able to assist you;
- We can provide spiritual support, comfort and prayer;
- We can offer occasional and modest assistance with tangible needs such as food, shelter or clothing;
- We can listen and be a supportive caring presence during times of crisis or distress.
Confidentiality
The details of your personal situation
will not be shared outside the Pastoral Care Team and Ministry Team. However,
both teams are required to communicate needs, requests, responses and concerns
to one another.
Rides to Church
There is no organized ride sharing system at West Shore at this time. When informed of a need, members of the Pastoral Care Team will try to find rides for to enable church members to attend church or special functions, to get food or prescription medication or to provide general assistance. Please contact the church office, a minister or Pastoral Care Team Coordinator, Doris Matthey, for more information.
Parish Nurse
West Shore is proud to have a Parish Nurse as part of our volunteer staff and as adjunct member of the Pastoral Care Team. Parish Nurse Marti Travis can be reached through the church office 440-333-2255.
