Outreach Offerings

Twice a month, West Shore UU Church gives away the contents of the collection plate to organizations that we care about. They differ in needs; some of them are local, non-profit organizations who respond to the needs of the underserved in West Cleveland; others are larger organizations, such as the UU Service Committee whose mission and values we wish to support. Sometimes the offering goes in response to a national or global crisis, such as for disaster relief. Regardless, the members of West Shore can feel good about the fact that since we started giving away the offering plate, we estimate that we have donated over $200,000 (and that number continues to grow!) to organizations in need.

We follow four general guidelines to determine recipients: near west side partner agencies; county-wide justice partner organizations, denominational justice groups, and congregation-based initiatives, either projects unique to West Shore or ones with particular leadership by congregation members. We also give preference to organizations associated with the congregationally approved task forces of West Shore.

If you are an organization who is interested in applying to be the recipient of our Outreach Offering, please fill out the short form on the side of this web page that will be forwarded to the committee. The committee meets quarterly. You will be contacted after the committee's decision to discuss whether your organization may make a brief presentation to the congregation on the Sunday that you are scheduled to receive the Outreach Offering.
