UU Youth Programs

Youth Group

Sundays (see schedule to right) 6 PM to 9 PM.

The West Shore Youth Group is a fun place to meet, hang out and have fun with other High School age Youth.  We meet up to a couple times a month on Sunday evenings.  We start with a Mystery Potluck (everyone brings a dish that could be a main course, side dish or dessert) and we eat and swap stories of the week.

An evening's worth of activities could include team building games, discussions of events as personal as what is going on in a Youth's life at school or home or as broad as topics from issues around the world. As the year goes on, the Youth host overnight stays at the church and at times go out to events in the community.  Such events include laser tag, gatherings with Youth from other church groups and even weekend trips to places like Serpent Mound in Southern Ohio.

Homeless on Hilliard, Friday, February 3, 4:00 pm. West Shore youth, Grades 7-12, are invited to join other Rocky River church youth to experience an overnight of homelessness on our front lawn! The youth and adult sponsors will make signs and encourage those traveling on Hilliard Boulevard to notice them and to make a donation to fight homelessness. Keeping warm, fed, and learning about homelessness and what can be done to respond to it, will have top priority that night. Youth will need warm clothes, a sleeping bag, and of course, parent permission to participate. Information and permission forms are available in Sunday School and at the RE table on Sundays. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Phil Florian, Youth Ministry Coordinator, at 440-333-2255, ext. 104, or pflorian@wsuuc.org. Want to help? Donate snacks and wood. Better yet, drive by that Friday night, make a donation and warm us with your support!

Youth Religious Education Gathering

Sundays - First Service

9:30 to 10:40 a.m

During the 9:30 AM Sunday Service Youth will be found in a variety of places throughout the church.  On the first Sunday Service of the month, Youth will be in the Sanctuary observing the presented service with snacks and discussion to follow in Room 10.  On the following two Sundays Youth will engage in discussion around topics raised in the Sunday Service or will explore deeper understanding and connections to the Monthly Themes set down by the church.  Themes include Connection, Awe, Conviction and Passion.  The Youth will also have the opportunity to share their ideas, passions and energy in the Annual Youth Service in March of 2012.

Youth Internship: Sunday Programs at 11:15

High school youth may attend the sanctuary worship or choose to serve the church as greeters, ushers, social hour hosts, tech support, choir members, teachers' aides and office volunteers. If there is something you would like to do with or for the church and don't see it mentioned here, contact Phil Florian to discuss other possible Internship opportunities.
