The Path to Lay Ministry
is designed to prepare a select group of lay leaders for service as lay religious leaders in West Shore’s ministries.
Pastoral Care Team
Members of the Pastoral Care Team are members who receive training in visitation, listening, and referral to services. They meet quarterly with one of the co-ministers or the volunteer Pastoral Care Coordinator Doris Matthey.

Certified Lay Ministry Program
For two decades, our regional organization the Ohio Meadville District has sponsored a Commissioned Lay Leader (CLL) Program. It has mostly served to train leaders for smaller congregations without professional ministry. West Shore is in conversation with the OMD about adapting the CLL model and program to create our own covenanted Lay Ministry.
Our Lay Ministers would take on specific responsibilities within the many ministries that West Shore offers. Our vision is that the parish co-ministers can work with two or three highly qualified and experienced lay leaders at a time each year, moving them towards simultaneous recognition by the both Ohio Meadville District as Commissioned Lay Leaders and West Shore Church as Lay Ministers. Applications for no more than two other Path to Lay Ministry candidates will be available. As candidates complete the program, new candidate positions will open up for application. West Shore has an opening for one more Commissioned Lay Leader Candidate for the 2010-2011 church year.
