Social Action Committee Projects

Our Social Action (SA) Committee acts as both a coordinating and initiating group for projects of service, witness, and action. The Committee has long had a commitment to Hunger Action as a regular project. Once a month, volunteer opportunities at the Cleveland Foodbank are publicized through Shorelines and the West Shore Weekly.  The Committee sponsors a Magazine Sale the first Sunday of the month with the proceeds going to help the needy and during the Intergenerational Service, the congregation is asked to bring a can of food per person for distribution to local hunger centers.

The Social Action Committee sustains a regular supporting relationship with the Inter-Religious Task Force on Central America, suported by the monthly Magazine Sale in the west hallway.

In recent years, the SA Committee has taken the lead on various peace witness activities, including the Eyes Wide Open memorial display for soldiers and civilians killed in Iraq, and on petition and education activities concerned with education policy in Ohio.  The Social Action Committee also sponsors a free film series that touches on important religious, social and political issues.

A table in the Rotunda most Sundays keeps people informed of volunteer activities and initiatives.

The Social Action Committee meets monthly in the church building on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. A team of committee members leads the group, but the contact for building the meeting agenda and for information about the committee activities is Gloria Bemer.
