Intergenerational Worship

We believe worship is a time of gathering for our congregational family, a time set apart to lift up what is worthy, a time to feel at home.  Worship is more than a Sunday service.  It allows us to live our religious principles by appreciating and encouraging each other’s free and responsible search for truth and meaning.  Worship is part of everyone’s religious education.  As we share our joys and concerns, our gifts and vulnerabilities, our loving and respectful responses ensure that we grow together as a worship community.  West Shore Church embraces intergenerational worship and works towards excellence in its creation and presentation.  Simply put, intergenerational worship is just good worship.

One Sunday each month school-age children attend the worship service with their family and friends in the main sanctuary.  The service’s sermon and liturgical elements are intentionally selected, created, layered and presented with respect for the full range of ages within our faith community.  Specific attention is paid to a variety of learning styles and attention spans.  The teamwork of ministers, worship associates, religious education  and music staff has resulted in a stronger worship community for all ages at West Shore.

An intergenerational social hour follows every Sunday service.  A child-friendly table of snacks and beverages is included.

Child Dedication Ceremony

Sunday, May 11, 10:30 a.m.

A Ceremony of Child Naming and Dedication is scheduled during the Sunday morning service on May 11th, coincidentally - on Mother's Day! In the Unitarian Universalist tradition, Child Dedication services mean that the child's religious and spiritual nature is recognized and affirmed by the church of which his parents/guardians are members. The service on Sunday, May 11th, is primarily for church members and their children; however, those who have been attending the church and are considering membership may also be eligible to participate in this important ceremony. Please contact one of the parish co-ministers no later than May 1st, if you are considering having your child dedicated at our Sunday morning service.
